Sydney

When I get an idea, there is no stopping me. Unfortunately, if I want you involved I want your answer on the spot – I won’t give you days to think about it, I need your commitment right then and there or I’ll automatically class it as a no and move on. It’s not only one of my horrible traits, but it’s also quite hypocritical as I’m usually an indecisive person. But this is how I got Jordy to come to Sydney with me.

My pitch to her was something along the lines of “There’s a performance in Sydney I want to see. It’s Legally Blonde the Musical. The lead is Lucy Durack – you know, the woman who played Glinda in Wicked. Would you like to come?”

That was that. Organised tickets, flights and accommodation and before we knew it, it was the restless night before our flights.

Day 1
4am – my alarm went off. It was time to paint my face and pack the final few items before heading to the train station for our 5.15am train to the airport.
As you can see from our really enthusiastic smiles, we were happy to be awake so early.

We got to the airport at 6.30am, checked in, had a walk around and got a coffee. Our plan started boarding two sips into our caffeine hit so we were forced to dispose the pick-me-up and file on board.

It was a relatively boring flight. I’m one of those sickos that enjoy turbulence.
Welcome to Sydney. We hope you enjoyed your flight. Thank you for flying with us. Please move your clocks an hour forward as Sydney is odd and tries to save time.

We navigated through the airport to the train station and somehow found our way to Eve’s house. Eve was kind enough to let us stay in her epic 4-story home whilst we were down (Thanks again sweetheart - you’re amazing!).

Next was breakfast. Eve recommended this cute little café a few blocks down, so we headed there before going into the city.
The food was delicious! Over the next few days, as you’ll see, I accidentally got basically the same meal everyday at breakfast just at different cafes.

We took a ferry from Circular Quay to Harbourside. Obviously I had to take some touristy photos of the Opera House and Luna Park.

We found ourselves at the Aquarium.

It was the afternoon by the time we finished exploring the place. We spend the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get back home. Sydney, your transport system sucks. You may have double-decker trains, but that’s all you’ve got going for you in that aspect.

By the time we ended up catching a train, finding some cheap Chinese food, all we wanted to do was have a shower and go to bed.

Day 2
We slept in. Not the best thing to do when we had a lot planned for today. Somehow we managed to get to China Town and find this café in a backstreet.

After breakfast, we started heading towards Circular Quay in lieu of going to the Taronga Zoo. Passing through the city I saw a Peter Alexander store, pressed the buses buzzer and got off. For weeks, I’d been weighing up ordering a piece from his Wizard of Oz collection, so seeing a store in Sydney, I took it as a sign.

I asked the woman working there if they had any in stock, she said they sold out as soon as they hit the shelves, but recommended we try their main store a few blocks up. Jordy, being the patience woman she is, let me rip apart the other store until I found what I was looking for. The piece I wanted was there, but in L-XL. Extremely disappointed, I decided I’d just settle for something else because at this point I just wanted some new pajamas, no matter which collection they were from. I headed over to the Disney section where I found hidden amongst Alice in Wonderland and rose prints, a shirt version of what I wanted. I didn’t care it was a large, it was mine.

With my latest piece of PA in my bag, we headed back to the ferry and onto the zoo!

I feel I need to make a point of this photo. It’s a snow leopard. Snow Leopards are my absolute favourite animal. This was the first time I’d ever seen on in real life, so needless to say I flipped out.  They were being really anti social and hiding up the back, so this was the best photo I could manage, but just being able to watch them was utterly amazing.

Jordy had been wanting gelato since we arrived, so we got some. The lady gave me two spoons because she thought we were sharing – no – we both just got big servings.

Here are just some snaps of heading back before getting ready for Legally Blonde!

We were going to go out for dinner at the Casino, but we didn’t leave enough time in between getting dressed up and how long it would take to get there.
We ended up just having some water and heading straight the Sydney Lyric Theatre.

I was lucky enough to book second row seats, so we were right up the front and in the middle. Being a complete musical nut, I was super excited about performance for weeks. The morning beforehand Jordy and I were chatting about it and realised this was her first live musical, so that only added to my excitement.

The show was perfect - absolutely perfect. They could not have cast it any better. The lead, Lucy Durack, who I previously had seen twice as Glinda in Wicked, was just brilliant.

I was determined to meet her. So I did. Along with the rest of the cast - Rob Mills, David Harris, Helen Dallimore, Erika Heynatz & Cameron Daddo. I would like to just point out that Cameron Daddo is a sleazy man. He relentlessly hit on me and for some reason through I was encouraging him when I confronted him about it.

here’s a snippet of the show

But on a much cheerier note, how beautiful is Lucy?!

Never again will I ever trust Jordy’s sense of direction. I’m still really frustrated with the whole situation, so I’m not going to type it out in detail. We ended up getting lost in the middle of the night in Sydney. Uh. Never again.

Day 3
With only 3 hours sleep (we didn’t end up getting home until the early morning), we got up, dragged ourselves to the nearest quaint book store / café and got breakfast.

The weather was miserable, but we still decided to go to the Botanical Gardens.

Our last stop before the airport was the Max Brenner Chocolate Bar.

Then it was goodbye Sydney.

I couldn’t think of anybody else I’d rather have gone with on this little holiday than Jordy. So having her with me made everything so much pleasant. I’ve already told her how much I enjoyed our time together, so it was sad to say goodbye back in Queensland.

But now it’s back to real life.
