Hello 2013

How was your New Years? Good? Bad? Don’t worry - mine was horrendous. I somehow ended up at Southbank watching the fireworks alone - that is until a gay aboriginal man decided to join me in my sob fest. So that’s how I finished 2012 and entered 2013.
The day afterwards was near perfect. I got coffee with a beautiful woman, and then got locked in Myer because we got carried away chatting on the lounges.

On the 2nd I woke up with a swollen throat. Booked in a doctors appointment and was told I had a viral throat infection – cool. I was prescribed rest, water and plenty of panadol.

It seemed I was on the path to recovery. Which was great, because I needed to be well before Sunday – the 6th. My birthday.

Unlike most people, I dread my birthday. Christmas and my birthday, two days I struggle with. Every single year, without fail something bad happens. But this year, I decided to take efforts into my own hands. I started planning back in October – there was no room for failure. Everything was prepped and ready to go. And I can say with much joy, nothing went majorly wrong.

Jordy came up on the 4th, shortly followed by Maddy and James on the 5th. We all stayed up together and counted down until midnight then crawled off to bed for the massive day ahead.

Daddy dearest came around at 8am to pick Maddy & I up for breakfast. We went to Willow & Spoon - where I got the biggest surprise of my life. A few weeks prior, I was having a conversation with my dad about what my passions are. This eventually lead to blogging and how much joy it brings me. As many of you know, I’ve been borrowing my sister’s camera for the past few months and she wanted it back. This broke my heart, because as great as my phone camera is, it can’t capture the moments I want it to.
Now back to breakfast. I was handed a gift bag with a green (being my favourite colour) envelope poking out the top. I picked up the card to read what sweet words were written inside (my sister & dad always write the loveliest / funniest things). Due to not wrapping what was inside the bag, simply picking at the card revealed what was hidden. I squealed before panicking and literally pushed the bag away shrieking, “I can’t even look at it!”
I looked over at my fathers face, glowing with pure happiness at my reaction. That sneaky man. But this wasn’t all his doing, my sister played part in this plot. When we were at the gym, I was researching cameras. She quizzed me on what one I was looking at buying. Completely disheartened at the price of the camera I fell in love with I began budgeting for the months of saving I’d have to do.

But there is was, my very own Canon EOS 650D. After the shock wore off, the first thing I did was put it together and began shooting.

Originally I had planned to see Les Misérables Gold Class, but unfortunately all the tickets were sold out for the session I wanted. So I decided a nap would be a great replacement. That is until Maddy threw me in the car after breakfast and drove to Indooroopilly with Jordy and James by my side. A little voice inside my head questioned whether or not we were going to the movies, but I had tripled checked booking times and they were ALL sold out in Brisbane. So it was only natural for me to melt when we entered the Gold Class cinemas.

Les Mis was breathtaking. I do regret only ordering a cocktail, because once the waiters began bringing out food, the delicious smells were torture. Jordy was kind enough to share her Belgian waffles with me.

We went home so I could begin my final cleaning frenzy before the rest of my guests arrived. They came on after another, Kirk, Skye & Jessie, Sarah and finally Willem. I wanted an intimate dinner, so I only invited my nearest and dearest.
We headed into the city to meet our reservations at 6.30pm. I did my research and decided on this beautiful modern Italian restaurant on Brisbane's Eagle Street Pier.

After a delish meal and fabulous service, it was straight home to start the party. Due to missing quite a few trains, it was 10.30pm by the time we got back. The plan was to catch the final train into the city, then go out. We missed the train and ended up catching a cab into The Valley. We explored China Town before heading to The Family, which on Sunday nights turns into ‘Fluffy’. I’ve never gotten into the whole “LeTs GeT DRUNKK!!~~” scene, with that said my hands down favourite part about clubbing is dancing. I love love LOVE dancing! So that’s how I ended my birthday – by dancing the night away.

It was around 3.30-4am when I went home. Being the party pooper at my own birthday, I needed to get up at 6.30am to pack, because I was going to spend a night with a friend at Caloundra. Everybody else stayed while I got a cab home with Jordy. Being a little bit of a clean freak, I couldn’t even think about getting into bed in the state I was in. Somehow I managed to have a shower, put water bottles around the house for everyone, and semi start packing before crashing as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Before I knew it, it was time to go.

Caloundra was beautiful. Exactly what I needed after a full on weekend. Sarah & I spent the next two days relaxing in each other’s company.

On train ride home I knew something was up. My entire body throbbed, my throat was tight & swollen, my fingers had pins and needles, and I just wanted to die. My sickness had come back a thousand times worse, in the form of tonsillitis / the flu.

At least I had the most amazing few days before my health decided to fail me!
